Stillness: Study 30

Storms and rain through the night, and I hear the rain this morning. Ah, as I am home on holiday, I get another cozy day indoors. Yay! A few days left in this month—this year. A few days remaining in this study of stillness that I have made. I think of stillness this morning and what I have learned. Stillness is a matter of focus—focus and faith too.

Maybe it’s because of the weather. Or, maybe it’s because of the topic I picked for today, but now - as I write, I think of Peter and the waves - do you know this Biblical story? Jesus after teaching many, took time to pray away from everyone. He even sent his disciples away telling them to go on ahead of him, out onto a lake. He prayed through the night. Near dawn, when ready to join them, he saw that they had traveled some distance from the shore and that the wind and waves were strong against their boat. He simply walked on the water to reach them. When they saw him, they were afraid. They thought he was a ghost. He reassured them, saying basically, “Don’t be afraid, it’s just me.” Peter, amazed, wanted to join his teacher and after getting the go-ahead, stepped out onto the water. He walked a few steps but then saw the waves and began to sink. At this point, the passage reads, “Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,’ he said, ‘why did you doubt?’” They both got into the boat together and the wind died down. The others — in awe.

Stillness is about focus and faith too. To be still, unplug from the winds and the waves of life and tune in to the divine core within. Simply let go and believe.

This morning, in stillness — I unplug from all distractions, and I am refreshed. I set an intention for my day: I will stay aware of this peace (moving through all tasks with focus and belief) and will move through my day with grace.

I pause and unplug, and I am refreshed.

I quiet myself - my mind and my body. I breathe and notice the weights of the world lifting. I let them go. I focus on my inner peace. I focus on what is calm and strong within me. I am refreshed. My spirit is refreshed. My heart is calmed. I am thankful.

Making a Connection Through Art Journaling

I am posting this short video showing you how I cultivate stillness through art and nature. Enjoy!

True silence is the rest of the mind, and is to the spirit what sleep is to the body, nourishment and refreshment.
